Wedding at Currumbin
Why have your wedding at Currumbin? Currumbin is a fabulous spot towards the southern end of the Gold Coast. It’s famous for surfing (think the world-renowned Currumbin Alley) and the Currumbin Sanctuary (native animals and lorikeet feeding) but it’s also a great place to get married.
It is close to the Gold Coast Airport and less than two hours’ drive from Brisbane. This makes a wedding at Currumbin easy for most guests to access. Currumbin has tons of accommodation options. Choose from modest motels to super fancy apartments and beautiful Airb’n’b houses for rent.
Beach Weddings
Currumbin has some of the best beaches in the world, so it’s a perfect choice for marriage ceremonies. The sand is clean and soft, the beaches are wide and far less busy than the more tourist-oriented parts of the Gold Coast such as Surfers Paradise, Burleigh and Broadbeach. There is plenty of free beachfront parking, although in school holidays and weekends in summer, parking might be more difficult. Elephant Rock is right on the beach and provides a great photo spot for a wedding at Currumbin.
If you’re planning a beach wedding at Currumbin, you will need to apply for a permit from the Gold Coast City Council. These are free and can be obtained online.
Park Wedding at Currumbin
If standing on sand isn’t for you, perhaps a park wedding might be what you’re looking for. Len Wort Park is a beachfront grassy park right at the southern end of Currumbin, overlooking Tugun Beach. It’s a perfect spot for a wedding at either Currumbin or Tugun and can be booked for a small fee from the Gold Coast City Council website. Imagine having fabulous sea views without sand in your shoes!
Intimate Weddings in Houses and Apartments
If you’re planning an intimate wedding with just your closest family and friends attending, it’s worth considering renting a large apartment or house and having your wedding there. Currumbin has some magnificent houses for rent through Airb’n’b and similar companies that will allow small weddings to take place there. Many of these are on the hill overlooking the beach and have magnificent water views. Many of them have lovely tropical gardens or wide cool verandahs that are ideal for weddings.
Wedding Receptions at Currumbin
Your reception choices are almost endless for a wedding at Currumbin, from self-catering or engaging a catering company to prepare your feast to booking one of the many restaurants in the area.
For great value and brilliant locations, it’s hard to go past the surf clubs. Both the Currumbin Vikings SLSC and the Tugun SLSC have dedicated function rooms and some great value wedding packages. Even better, the clubs are right on the beach with amazing views of the Gold Coast.
For some other Gold Coast wedding options, have a look a my blogs about weddings at Coolangatta, Broadbeach, Surfers Paradise and Southport. Fingal is a quaint little seaside village just over the New South Wales border that is also a fabulous place to get married.
