Why Choose a Wedding at Old Government House
A wedding at Old Government House in Brisbane will always be an event to remember. This fabulous heritage building has a perfect location. It is on the QUT Gardens Point campus next to the City Botanic Gardens. It is also close to the Brisbane River. If you want to celebrate with style in a grand old building, a wedding at Old Government House might be perfect for you.
Indoor Spaces
Old Government House has a number of indoor and outdoor spaces that can be hired individually or combined to become a beautiful ceremony or reception venue.
The indoor spaces for a wedding at Old Government House are interconnected. They can be hired separately or combined for larger events. The Hall, Drawing Room and Dining Room are spacious, colonial style rooms that can be used for both indoor ceremonies and receptions. The Hall can accommodate 60 people banquet style and 150 for a cocktail reception. The Drawing Room and Dining Room are slightly smaller, each catering for 50 people seated or 75 cocktail style.
The Billiard Room is perfect for intimate receptions. The House’s original dining table can seat 22 people comfortably. For an indoor/outdoor wedding at old Government House, the Courtyard at the side of the house can also be hired in conjunction with the rooms inside.
The Great Outdoors
The indoor spaces are magnificent, but Old Government House is surrounded by manicured green lawns. In my opinion, the absolute best spot for a wedding at Old Government House is the kidney shaped lawn at the front of the house. This is an ideal ceremony location. It’s peaceful and has a great outlook over the Botanic Gardens. Old Government House provides a fabulous backdrop for the ceremony. Amazing wedding photos are almost guaranteed.
Wedding vehicles are permitted to drive right up to the lawn, although no other traffic is allowed near Old Government House. The lawn can also be set up as a reception venue, making the most of Brisbane’s (mostly) wonderful weather.
Easy Access
Getting to a wedding at Old Government House is a breeze. There is excellent public transport to Gardens Point. It is on several bus routes, QUT has its own City Cat ferry terminal and Central and South Bank railway stations are a short walk away. Even better, it is within walking distance of lots of hotels in the Brisbane CBD. There is also paid parking on the QUT campus and several parking stations at South Bank or in the CBD.
